Eulogy read at the funeral service

Brian was born in Chesterfield on 15 March 1940 one of three children on Norman and Sally Moore. H e has a brother Mick and a much younger sister Pat sadly neither of whom could make it to Spain. His school days were spent at Hollingwood Junior School and Stavely High School where it is fair to say he did rather well always coming top of the class. I´m told he had a mind like a computer when it comes to information. After school he went to work in the offices of the local ironworks where he worked in cost and management accounting. Within a few years he became bored with the prospect of many years working with figures and he signed up for a 22 year stint in the Royal Air Force. That must have been a daunting prospect for a young man who had not yet lived that many years. One of Brian’s pet hates was heights and the choice of the RAF raised a few eyebrows. He was asked how would cope if they were told to jump out of an aircraft and Brian said they would have to throw him out. Brian’s RAF career took all over the world and particularly Hong Kong, Malaysia and Germany. Brian was in Germany when the wall was built and it was only at the last minute that he managed to get back to the right side of the wall. Brian has always been fascinated with sport and was a keen player of golf, cricket and many other sports. In the RAF I am told it wasn´t just once that an aircraft was diverted in order that a game of golf could be played. It was in Singapore than many games were played and a night or two was spent at the famous Raffles Hotel. Quite how he found time to fit in his duties as a Flight Sergeant is not known. His final years in the RAF were spent in the UK and it was here that he met Stephanie who has been with for almost 30 years. Brian brought three children to the marriage Karen, Paul and Debbie plus two children from Stephanie Davin and Andrew completed the new family. After the full term in the RAF was completed Brian and Stephanie found their way into managing pubs. Of course it wasn’t just any old pub but rather large pubs with function rooms and restaurants. This took Brian and Stephanie to Norwich, Dover, Lingfield, Iver, Stourbidge and finally Yate near Bristol. One pub in Stourbridge was really a conference and function centre accommodating up to 900 people with 2 function rooms, 6 bars and a restaurant. Not only was Brian a pub manager but also chef and personnel manager as many staff lived in with all the interesting events that could bring. Throughout his life sport has always been a major activity and as a teenager Brian played for Chesterfield under 18’s and remained an ardent supporter all his life. He did also admit to a love for Manchester United and in fact he would watch any game going. Up to three weeks ago Brian played golf twice a week and Stephanie admits that once or twice she let Brian win. Paul tells me Brian was always a loving caring father who never let his children go short. There are six grandchildren – Debbie has Victoria and Jason, Jaren has Jace, Davin has Alicia and Andrew has Rose and Jay Brian will be sadly missed by all his family.
